Aug 05, 2018

From Dr. Abe Korn. USA Correspondent of MICE-Contact.

The World Meeting Forum, abbreviated as WMF2018, was recently held from July 17 to 19, 2018 at the Vidanta Convention Center in the Riviera Nayarit region of Mexico. The trade show itself was held within the brand new hotel known as Vidanta, which is an enormous property consisting of several hotel buildings. In addition to the trade show, there was a pre-golf program, as well as, post tours to several other destinations in Mexico.

While some travelers might not know the Riviera Nayarit region, they certainly know the destination of Puerto Vallarta, which is where most hosted buyers stayed for the pre-golf invitational portion of the program. The Grand Fiesta Americana hotel was the host for hosted buyers involved in the golf program which lasted for 3 days and 2 nights. The golf was played at the course known as El Tigre or The Tiger because the course has a few Bengal tigers that can be seen roaming their enclosed habitats.

For the actual trade show, buyers were transported for 3 nights to Vidanta hotel. The accommodations were huge and luxurious. The hotel has an expansive convention center were all programs were held. Breakfast and lunch were held on property at one of Vidanta’s restaurants and the convention center. Dinners were provided offsite at other venues including the Hard Rock hotel where everyone was treated to a performance by Jeff Ravel.

WMF2018 had a multitude of tour operators, hoteliers, A/V providers, DMC’s, and other important suppliers that make up the tourism sector of Mexico and some of its surrounding neighbors. The hosted buyers and other attendees came from all parts of the world including the United States, Germany, Netherlands, Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ukraine, South Africa, and of course many different regions in Mexico.

During the event, suppliers and buyers had one-on-one meetings with each other; most meetings lasting approximately fifteen minutes. There was also plenty of time for networking as well. Each supplier had an opportunity to meet and discuss future business opportunities with the buyers. Overall, it was an excellent event with buyers and suppliers being very pleased with the program.

Lastly, hosted buyers were offered post tours to various regions of Mexico including Puebla, Guadalajara, and Riviera Nayarit. The post tours last 3 days which gave buyers time to quickly learn about these other Mexican destinations and what they can offer their groups. Overall, the organizers of WMF2018 did a wonderful job and many thanks go out to their staff for their amazing work in keeping everything running smoothly.
