TMS launches inaugural Asia Travel/Hospitality Industry Salary Survey

Apr 16, 2008

TMS Asia-Pacific has this week commenced collating input for its inaugural Asia Travel and Hospitality Industry Salary Survey.

More than 20,000 travel industry personnel ranging from senior management to front-line consultants in a wide variety of industry sectors have been invited to participate in the survey. Andrew Chan said the primary purpose of the survey is to independently assess the total remuneration packages of consultants and management at all levels throughout the region.

“The end benefits of this survey are extremely diverse,” he said.

“In the first instance the survey allows organisations to ensure they are paying market rates thereby maintaining their competitive edge. The survey also reviews the link between salary and non-financial benefits and the impact on job satisfaction and retention levels. This enables us to paint a very accurate industry picture rather than relying on anecdotal evidence.”

Mr Chan said that employers should remember that salary is rarely the entire reason someone makes a decision to either join or leave an organisation.
Opportunities for career and skill development, engagement with the organisation, a sense of belonging and true flexibility are equally if not more important, than salary,” he said.

“The regional market landscape has significantly changed in recent times and continues to change and there is no hiding the fact that while the economy is strong and tourism demand high, the travel and hospitality industry is suffering from its worst staffing crisis in years. This situation is being further compounded by employees leaving the travel and hospitality sector, invariably lured away by higher salaries and better career prospects. The information this salary survey will provide is pivotal for an industry looking to benchmark itself across other industry sectors and hopefully give companies a better understanding as to how they compare.”
